Mr. John Emmanuel Donkoh began his education at the Methodist School in Cape Coast. After completion of sixth form with the attainment of the Advanced Level Certificate his teaching career begun. He taught mathematics at St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast, in 1967. Recognising the need to develop his teaching skills and for a general career development, he enrolled at the Advanced Teacher’s Training College, Wineaba (now University of Education, Wineaba). He came out with a Diploma in Mathematics in 1970.
After graduation Mr. Donkoh taught Mathematics at Tamale Secondary School, Ghana Secondary school and Tamale Business College, all in Tamale, the Capital of the Northern Region of Ghana. This was in the period from 1970 to 1979. This was when there were only a few mathematics teachers in the entire Country.
By dint of hard work and commitment he rose to occupy several positions. He held the position of Northern Regional Chairman and Council Member of the Mathematical Association of Ghana from 1974 to 1979. During the same period, he served as the Northern Regional Co-ordinator for the Metrication Programming Committee as well as the Regional Mathematics Organiser, with the responsibility of organising mathematics courses for teachers in the Region.
His hard work paid off when he earned a scholarship to pursue a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education at the Birmingham University in the United Kingdom in 1979. Sometime after his studies in the UK, he taught Mathematics and English Language at Martin Luther King Memorial Institute in London. After two years of teaching, Mr. Donkoh saw the need to return home to contribute to the development of Ghana; leaving quite a comfortable life behind.
Upon his return in 1987, he established Jayee Secretarial Training Institute. With his outstanding leadership (and the hard work of the staff), Jayee Secretarial Training Institute has undergone considerable transformation over the years to a University College. With his visionary leadership, Jayee is very well structured with two faculties – Business Administration and Communication Science; and is the first Institution to introduce Media Management and Personality Enhancement in Ghana.
Mr. Donkoh is a devout Christian and is married with five children
